SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – A new way of getting food and healthcare is coming to Syracuse. Brady Market is partnering with the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation to form a Food Pharmacy.
Daniel Frascella, Chief Programs and Grants officer at Mother Cabrini, says the Food Pharmacy will give residents access to medically tailored meals along with healthcare such as screenings and access benefits.
“It’s a nice combination of providing for the health needs of the people in Syracuse as well as these other very important needs and challenges that people face,” Frascella said.
The program comes just 6 months after extra funding was cut for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The near 67,000 people in Onondaga County enrolled in SNAP have received less money each month as a result of the budget cuts.
Along with Mother Cabrini, the project is working with other organizations such as St. Joseph’s Hospital and the Dunbar Association. Frascella says this collaboration makes the project that much more beneficial.
“We like collaborative efforts that bring a number of organizations together,” Frascella said. “So, we thought it was a good project and it made sense to support,” Frascella said.
