Syracuse, N.Y. (NCC News) – The new Golden Corral coming to Syracuse has finally announced a date for its grand opening. The company’s third restaurant in Upstate New York will start feeding costumers on March 11 at 10:00 in the morning.
The new restaurant will offer an all-you-can-eat buffet, but that’s not all. The restaurant will also put several Syracuse-area residents to work, according to company marketing consultant Niroopa Hanpaul.
“It’s going to bring 160 jobs to the market,” said Hanpaul. “We’ve got a very diverse group of coworkers that are coming in. Everyone is very excited, everyone is very eager to start.”
General manager Allen Lavelle said more than 1,000 applied for jobs.
“It’s amazing when you go up and down the streets and everyone is hiring, yet I have a thousand people who want to work here,” said Lavelle.
Pekeyla Townsend, who lives in downtown Syracuse, applied for a job as a server at the new restaurant.
“I heard about Golden Corral coming to Syracuse in the summertime of 2018, and I was like yeah, I’m pretty familiar with Golden Corral – the good food experience, the great customer service, the nice servers and hostesses – and said yeah, I should get into it,” Townsend said.
The new restaurant will be the third Golden Corral in Upstate New York; the closest location is nearly 80 miles away. Lavelle anticipates business at the new restaurant will match its two Upstate New York counterparts.
“Well, Syracuse makes the smartest demographics of the market,” said Lavelle. “We have one in Albany, one in Rochester, and obviously, with Syracuse being a middle point almost, it would make sense to put [the new spot in] Syracuse. Plus, Syracuse has a great community of people that are here,” he added.
Lavelle said people anticipate the restaurant’s arrival.
“I’ve lived here in Syracuse for over seven years, and I can tell you that I go out with my Golden Corral shirt on, and everywhere I go, the first thing [people ask] is ‘when is Golden Corral coming?’” said Lavelle.
