Falconer says he’s talked to a lot of people who already have drones and are looking to upgrade. Some want drones with special cameras that sense how healthy plants are. It helps determine what crops to focus on, ultimately helping to grow more food for more people. Ricky Sayer, NCC News.
By Ricky Sayer SYRACUSE N.Y. (NCC News) New drone technology is allowing for Central New York farmers to grow food more efficiently. Farmers use drones to take an aerial look at crops and livestock, according to Sean Falconer of CNY Drone Works.
CNY Drone Works is a vendor at this year’s New York Farm show, which opened Feb. 21 in Syracuse. Falconer said that he has had multiple inquiries from farm owners about upgrading their drones.
Falconer says that drones allow for farmers to check on their crops remotely.
“So let’s say there is a big rainstorm and you’re worried your crops have fallen apart or whatever,” Falconer said . “You can fly your drone out and check out the field without having to drive your truck or tractor out there.”
Other drones have specialized cameras that can sense how healthy crops are. It helps the farmers be more efficient.
