Kienan Dixon SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC NEWS)- A new Siena College poll shows disapproval for Governor Andrew Cuomo. According to the poll, just 43% of New Yorkers approve of Cuomo’s work in office while 50% disapprove.
Local residents chimed in with their opinions on Cuomo. Thomas Bergess says the issue is a lack of jobs for blue-collar workers, thus creating an environment of unemployment. “Some of the people don’t want to work,” Bergess says. “It’s too…Syracuse is beautiful. There’s a lot out here to help people, maybe that’s some of the problem. There’s too much giving.”
Eric Ockert believes Cuomo is too focused on other parts of the state. “It’s like any other New York politician,” Ockert says. The focus is on New York City. You know, we get neglected.”
Ockert also says education and lack of funding for central New York school districts is an issue that Cuomo needs to address. “The state has a responsibility to educate our children,” Ockert says. “When you look at the Syracuse City high school graduation rates, it’s atrocious.”
The latest poll shows that while Cuomo is receiving disapproval from around half of all New York residents, he has made the state a better place in his nine-year tenure as governor.
