For the first time in Syracuse, he 34th annual Newmar International Rally is taking place in Syracuse, NY. The rally is being held at the New York fairgrounds and lasts a week long.
The Newmar International Rally is a congregation of people nationwide who are interested in RV’s and camping. There are currently over 475 RV’s parked at the fair grounds, estimating over a thousand visitors from as far as northern Canada. There are many people from California and the Midwest who are present at the rally also.
Don Lewellyn, Ohio, is a volunteer at the International Rally and he believes the convention will have a positive impact on the local economy.
“Our current International Director, Bob Kreiger has put together a survey and he figured that the people attending this rally will bring in three and a half million dollars to the local economy,” Lewellyn said .
The individuals that attend these rallies are also in Syracuse as tourists as they look to explore the Syracuse area.
The convention, that is located at a different site throughout the country each year, has a number of activities for their campers including live entertainment, seminars, training sessions, arts and crafts and many great meals that are provided at the site.
Lewellyn stated that the Syracuse fair ground is the perfect place to have the rally because of the length and width of the New York State Fair Convention Center and close proximity to Syracuse. The convention centers used during these rallies must be large because many RV’s and new camping technology is stored inside and showcased at these events.
The fair ends on October 5, with a bulk of entertainment occurring this weekend.
