By Saniya More SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – The U.S. Border Patrol stopped over 66,000 migrants at the Southern border in February, marking a 10-year high in unauthorized migrant crossings.
Most migrants arrested were families or children traveling without a parent, according to a report released by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection on Tuesday.
Many of these migrants say they are trying to escape dangerous gang activity and poverty to seek a better life in the United States.
“This is clearly both border security and humanitarian crisis,” said CBP Commissioner Kevin McAleenan at a press conference.
Humanitarian groups and authorities expect a greater increase in the number of migrants as temperatures go up.
