SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – The New York State Fairgrounds will be lit blue and gold tonight to honor the achievement of 70% of New York adults being vaccinated. It’s one of 13 state landmarks being illuminated across the state including locations like the Empire State Building, One World Trade Center and Niagara Falls State Park.
Today during a press conference, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said the state has come a long way in the 472 days since the beginning of the pandemic.
“It was impossible to fathom that 70% of New York’s adults would have received their first COVID vaccination by this point,” Cuomo said. He praised the swift action taken to accomplish this milestone in less than a year since the vaccine was released. He also recognized those that lost their lives during the pandemic.
“As we celebrate lifting restrictions and resuming our reimagined normal, we also reflect on the hard work of New York state’s essential workers and we remember those we lost,” Cuomo said. “New Yorkers have always been tough, but this last year has proven just how tough they are. Congratulations, New Yorkers, on all that your hard work has accomplished.”
The State Fairgrounds will also host a fireworks show tonight at 9:15 along with downtown Utica and the Rochester Dome Arena.
