SYRACUSE–Former President George H.W. Bush passed away on November 30th at the age of 94. President Trump has made today, December 5th a day of mourning around the country to honor Bush Sr.
Today is about the late president who is remembered fondly by many. One of those people is Syracuse Republican Committee Chairman Randy Potter, who is looking back at some of the president’s most memorable aspects.
“The landscape of the whole world is changed due to George Bush”, Potter said, “George H. W. Bush.”
Bush 41, as he is often called, had an extensive career of service to the United States, starting out as a navy fighter pilot during the pacific theater of World War II, and then moving to politics in later years. His list of titles includes a stint in congress, serving as the US ambassador to the UN and then to China, two terms as vice president and of course, his time as the commander-in-chief in the early 90’s. And it is this lifetime of commitment to this country that Potter remembers the most.
“Phenomenal person, just a phenomenal person, I mean, he was there when history was being made for 40 years.” Potter continued, “He might not have always been right in the front of the picture, but he was always in the back.”
However, Potter says, what sticks out the most is his relationships with other people.
“His fairly nice disposition was something that we don’t see too much of anymore.” Said Potter, “I mean, he smiled a lot and was very pleasant, even to people he didn’t agree with.”
Bush is being laid to his final resting place in the next couple of days. And for all the political turmoil in this country, today is about a final goodbye to Bush Sr.
