SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News)– This weekend, a new tea shop came to town- sort of.
Cousins Jasmine Wynter and Amelya Wynter-Notoma held a grand-opening event on Saturday to officially announce the opening of their new online tea shop Wynter’s Tea.
The shop offers five unique flavors to customers, but is soon coming out with a new surprise holiday flavor to ring in the winter season.
Jasmine Wynter said the company has sold more than 80 tea containers since Saturday.
Wynter said that it was important for her and her cousin to make a brand that would be eco-friendly and sustainable.
“Me and Amelya decided that we needed the company to be eco-friendly because we care a lot about the planet, ” said Wynter.
For these reasons, Jasmine and Amelia decided to pick a packaging that was not only reusable, but compostable and biodegradable.
Wynter’s Tea customer Kayla Bourgeois said this is one of the things that really attracted her to the company.
“Everything that’s involved in the process has been vetted, it’s been checked. You can recycle all components of it, so it’s very green,” said Bourgeois.
Aside from that, Bourgeois said that she thinks it’s nice to see Black women representing the community in a positive way.
Jasmine says it feels unreal to be inspiring young minority girls and women in this way.
“It feels amazing because I feel like there weren’t a whole bunch of people to kind of show us how to do this or how to be who we are and not apologize about it,” said Wynter.
Jasmine and Amelya want to make sure that their tea brings a sense of calmness to everyone who drinks it, especially as the winter cold sets in.
“After the pandemic, everything was just on go-go-go, it was very stressful, and so I thought how can I give myself peace, and how can I give peace to others?” said Wynter.
Jasmine and Amelya hope their tea helps people take time out of the day to relax and get comfy.
