From engineers to construction workers the county made sure to have a wide variety of employers at their first ever career fair. This Wednesday Onondaga County put on a career fair at the Civic Center that targeted Syracuse’s diverse demographic.
“I just wanted to have a diverse collection of companies that are looking for a diverse collection of talent,” said Quante Wright, County Workforce Specialist.
The county wanted to make sure that the career fair had different companies that would attract a larger audience.
The event had over 300 people in attendance. This exceeded organizers expectations which has influenced them to hold this event multiple times throughout the year.
The county is looking to host this event quarterly because of the positive response from companies and the turnout from the public.
In addition to these larger quarterly career fairs Wright is currently working on another project to add smaller career fairs to local libraries.
Adding smaller fairs to local libraries will allow them to happen more frequent throughout the year. The county decided to target local libraries so anyone can have access to the internet when applying for jobs.
The county also offers services for individuals when applying or seeking for jobs. To access these services, you can contact The Onondaga County Economic Development Center.
There will be another job fair at CNY Works on August 1st.
