SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – Operation Christmas Child is an organization that provides gifts to children in need during the holiday season. Life Church is one of the many locations that participates in Operation Christmas Child.
There is a reason why people volunteer more during the holiday season. Bob Doody is the pastor at Life Church. He has been a part of Operation Christmas Child for over three years. He says there is something special about giving to those in need.
“It makes you feel more accomplished more fulfilled,” Doody said.
The shoe boxes are for children from ages 2-14. You can fill them with things like clothing, toys, and self care products.
Patryck Jones has been a volunteer for Operation Christmas Child for seven years. Jones grew up with a single working father. He gives back because someone did it for him as a child and he remembers what it was like to receive a small gift.
“It makes you feel loved, you are not forgotten, during the holiday people just get forgotten too often and it’s depressing,” Jones said.
Jones says people are more likely to volunteer during the holidays.
“I think this is the time and the season where people feel like they can finally make an impact,” Jones said.
Life Church has collected over 700 boxes. They will continue to collect them until Nov. 25.
