By Marsha Augustin SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Party @ The Plaza, a summer after work happy hour with food, drinks and live entertainment, attracts up to 150 professionals in downtown Syracuse.
“We wanted to be that gathering place for the professionals in downtown to have something to do after work during the summer,” said Jenna Godlewski, Director of Sales and Marketing with the Crowne Plaza.
Entertainment for Party At The Plaza includes local musicians and bands. Just Joe a Syracuse native has performed for the past two years.
He won the crowd over singing Prince’s “Raspberry Beret” and everything from rock n roll to reggae hits.
Just Joe likes to bring his talent to this event because there are all genres of music to enjoy. “We have blues bands, we have rock bands, we have hip hop bands, we have polka bands.”
Fans of the Ex-Party In the Plaza summer happy hour event, which ended nearly a decade ago due to stricter dwi laws, are enthusiastic about this spin off.
During that time, organizers did not want to be held liable for party goers who had too much to drink.
Organizers made the decision to no longer serve alcohol. This resulted in low turnout.
One attendee I spoke with said, he is happy there is something new happening in the city and likes to attend this event so he can unwind after work and listen to music.
“It’s a nice day, we are out in the park, so a lot of people attend and just be out in the park listening to music.”
Party At The Plaza kicked off on July 10th and happens every Wednesday through August 7th from 5:00pm-8:00pm at Forman Park rain or shine.
