Michelle Gannett: , I recommend they go see their doctor, talk to their doctor first.

Nicholas Capella: Gannett believes reiki can provide relief if someone is looking for an alternative to prescription medication

Michelle Gannett: They both can be successful. It’s just a very different way. I think that depending on what
you need, you know, why put drugs in your system if you don’t have to?

LIVERPOOL, N.Y. (NCC News) – Reiki practitioners reach out to those suffering from anxiety.

Reiki is the Japanese practice of healing through the transfer of energy from one individual to another by physical touch.  People struggling with anxiety have sought the treatment to help them cope.

Healing Inspirations and Blue Moon Apothecary of Liverpool have certified reiki practitioners who administer the method to treat people who suffer from anxiety or depression.

“Reiki is natural and you’re calming yourself,” said Debbie DeRusha of Healing Inspirations.  DeRusha has been a practicing reiki for 23 years.  “Reiki gives you your mental and your emotional self the energy to do what is needed to heal.”

Reiki therapy can be used alongside any medical treatment someone might be receiving but should not always be a replacement treatment.

“Depending on the severity of it, if somebody’s really struggling, I recommend they go see their doctor first,” Michelle Gannett, the reiki practitioner from Blue Moon Apothecary said. “I don’t think it’s a bad idea to try to do it without a doctor but you know, as any kind of practitioner whether it’s for Reiki or somebody taking exercise classes, it is important to go see your doctor first.”

Gannett believes that reiki healing is a more natural and holistic approach to treat anxiety without immediately going to a doctor and receiving a prescription.

“I do 100% believe that we’re created to heal ourselves within reason for certain things. So why not just try something else before you go that next step,” she said.

Both women recommend meeting with a practitioner first before receiving reiki therapy.
