While greek life is often noted for parties and hazing, philanthropy chair Matteo Chizzola says there’s more to his organization.

Matteo Chizzola I get very passionate about philanthropy personally. I was up this morning at 8 a.m. freaking out that this wasn’t going to be as good as it can be and it’s going great right now. But I think if more people, more people had that attitude and had the attitude of just give it back in general and just making other people happy and just saving lives like we’re doing, it would just work out very well.

Sigma Chi has hosted the event once a semester for the last five years. And while 22 appointments were expected today, the fraternity will also raise money for the Huntsman Cancer foundation later this spring. Last year they raised more than 30,00 dollars.

Not looking at the positives as certain people and only the negatives, as certain people do, is very toxic. But it’s important to view as a positive, this is a positive for us, it always has been and our philanthropy is always going to be here.

Sigma Chi offered water and food to donors inside their house during the event which is something SU Student Courtney Young appreciates.

They’re willing to open up their spaces to have blood donations. I haven’t really seen a lot of them do it. So it’s great that the ones that do do it have opened up their houses and allowed these people to come in and you know roam around, sooo.

For Sigma Chi, today was about giving back. Josh Schafer, NCC NEWS
