Syracuse, N.Y. (NCC NEWS) – Construction at the Hancock International Airport is forcing planes to land on a different runway, which means some Syracuse residents may see more planes in the sky this summer.
Runway 10-28 is receiving a cleaner bed of asphalt, this ensures that the runway is safer and lasts much longer. In addition to the asphalt, the runway will receive new lights and signs.
However, because of this construction planes now have to take off and land on a runway 15-30. This points the planes in a new direction and has them flying low of Northeast and Southwest Syracuse.
One church in the area the Luther Memorial Lutheran Church does their services outside and may be dealing with the loud noise by the increased in air traffic. A member of the church Dana Gilbert said this could prove to be a problem in the future.
“I don’t know, if 14 planes flew over between 9 and 10 in the morning, yeah it could have an effect on us,” said Gilbert.
While many will see an increase in air traffic this summer in areas around town they normally don’t, the flow of traffic at Hancock Airport won’t be delayed or impacted in any way because of the construction.
