SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — Thursday  marks the 24th anniversary of the release of the first two Pokémon games.  Nintendo  released Pokémon Red and Green  in Japan on February 27,  1996.  Since then the franchise has evolved into a worldwide phenomenon.

Some of the  NCC News  staff  are lifelong fans and others have never played any of the games. Hear what they have to say in the video above.

Netflix released a CGI remake of the first Pokémon film, “Mewtwo Strikes Back,” earlier Thursday.  The film joined  Netflix’s  library of Pokémon-related media, which includes the first 52 episodes of the TV show and the 2017 film, “I Choose You!”

Ninetendo is commemorating Pokémon’s anniversary as “Pokémon Day 2020.”  The company encouraged fans  to post their experiences with the franchise on social media.
