SYRACUSE, N.Y.– As the temperature warms and spring approached, productivity on the buildings undergoing construction has increased. The work being done on the National Veterans Resource Center and the Barnes Center at the Arch is progressing on time.
“Pouring concrete is always a challenge with the weather conditions,” said Syracuse University Chief Facilities Officer Pete Sala. “So it makes it a lot easier.”
Without having to worry about the bitter cold or snowstorms, Sala says the main steel moving process becomes easier.
“The Arch has gone very well. We’ve added a fourth crane this week to move steel along.”
The process for renovating the roof of the Carrier Dome will actually begin on Monday. Sala said a group will begin the preliminary process of creating braces in each corner of the Dome. The group will work from Monday until the time of commencement. The renovations will not interfere with any of the SU sports played inside the Dome.
The $118 million dollar facelift will include a permanent roof, an overhanging scoreboard, air conditioning and LED lights.
The new additions are predicated on an enhanced fan experience within the Loud House.
“It’s what we talk about all the time,” Sala said of fan enjoyment. “It’ll be a lot of fun for the fans.”
The NVRC will be open for use in January of 2020 before students return for the spring semester. The Barnes Center at the Arch will be open in by September of 2019. The Carrier Dome roof will be functional by the fall of 2020.
