Residents Concerned After Southside Shooting Leaves One Man Dead One Dead in Southside Syracuse on Saturday

SYRACUSE, NY. (NCC News) — On Saturday around 5 p.m., police were called to the 100 block of Dr. Martin Luther King West. Shots were heard ringing out in the neighborhood, which left a 31-year-old man deceased.

He was brought to Crouse Hospital before paramedics could arrive at the scene. He was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later, police said.

The shooting took place near the Dr. Martin Luther King Elementary School in southside Syracuse.

Dondray Jackson, a local resident, said that the incident happening close to the school is concerning but says law enforcement hasn’t done enough to tackle common violence in the neighborhood.

“I’m always worried,” Jackson said. “I’m not gonna lie. You know, even if it’s not my my child, you know. I’m not sure actually what they can do right now to make it a little better, but I know what they’re doing now really isn’t working.”
