Professional skaters and amatuers are all gathered at Clinton Square Ice Skating Rink for different reasons. Some, to build friendship while others to exercise but one reason they can all agree on is to enjoy their time out with family and friends.
Ethan Thomas is one of those amatuer skaters. He came from New York to experience life in Syracuse.
” I came out here ice skating with a couple of friends because I felt like falling on ice and hurting later. No, I want to come out and have fun,” said Thomas who was visibly excited.
Skate in the City is also being hosted in SunnyCrest Ice Rink. The rink is open until March 31.
The program attracts different skaters from around Syracuse, both the young and the old but once they are at the rink, they share the same awesome experience.
Joe Sallin is a regular skater. he has been skating since he was a child although he had to learn how to skate again after returning to Syracuse.
” I think I mostly forgot everything I learn as a child skating. I spent a lot of time down south during my adults years,” said Sallin.
He said staying indoors can be very depressing, which leaves people disliking the winter adding that as long as you stay active, you can get more energy every day.
” The winters in Syracuse can be very long and cold. I think it’s very easy for people to sit inside and wait for the cold to pass but I found that if you get outside and embrace the weather, get some fresh air, embrace the snow by skating or something like that, you actually feel a lot better both inside and out and actually enjoy the winter,” said Sallin.
