SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC NEWS) – Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, with only two days  left to make plans. The National Retail Federation (NRF) expects consumers to spend $20.7 billion in total on Valentine’s Day gifts and celebrations. That includes candy, flowers, a night out, and greeting cards.

The NRF surveyed consumers over the past decade on Valentine’s Day trends, documenting historical spending and gifts, as well as demographics. Total spending is up over $1 billion from 2018.

This year people ages 35-44 are expected to spend the most money on average, a total of $279.14 per person.

The survey says the most money will be spent on jewelry this year, at an average of $30.34 per person. A night out comes in at a close second, $27.72 per person.
