Ringing in the Holidays in CNY Ringing in the Holidays in CNY

By Josh Liepper (Baldwinsville, N.Y.)-

The holidays are here and shoppe owners are already ringing in the holidays and new year with decorations, Christmas jingles and food.

Robin Mack, owner of Sweet Dreams Candy Shoppe, has started preparing gifts and lots of candy for the holiday season.

When you walk into Mack’s shoppe, you hear bells ringing, jingles playing and get positive vibes from the store.

However, it’s not just the shoppe that is ringing in the holidays, Mack is bringing the holiday spirit to her shoppe and the Baldwinsville community.

“I was raised to be a nice, genuine person. I just hope the best for everybody,” she exclaimed.

Mack greets her customers the same, asking them how they’re doing. She wants to make sure everyone feels welcomed and accepted.

Mack is also a giver. She loves working with kids and wants to help the community in any way she can.

“Any way I can help, unless it’s something I can’t afford, then I will do it. That’s what the holidays are all about,” she said.

The candy shoppe owner also believes that people should be shopping at small businesses during the holiday season because it brings the community together.

“I want people to come in and not only support my candy shoppe, but other small businesses around town,” she said.

Mack also offered a Giant Gingerbread and Christmas Tree cookie decorating class for kids in the area.

If you head over to the shoppe, one of the biggest sells according to Mack are the “Buckeyes”. Yes, they are based off the state of Ohio for those who were thinking of that. These sweets are chocolate with peanut butter inside and are very delightful.

“The Buckeyes are by far the most popular amongst customers. Everyone usually wants to buy them or even make them during the holiday season,” Mack says.

The Sweet Dream Candy Shoppe is open every day except Sundays and Mondays.

LIEPPER: Robin Mack embodies what the holiday spirit is all about. Her love for kids and selfless/upbeat personality makes everyone happy in Baldwinsville. All Mack wants to do is give back to the community.

MACK: (“If I can give just a little bit to help out when I can, it’s just all about good karma for me.”)

(Track 2)

LIEPPER: When Mack retired from nursing, she wanted to open up a candy shop in B-ville. Being that she’s been open since April of this year, this will be the first year Mack is owning a business during the holiday season. Mack loves this time of the year and is already starting to make gifts.

MACK: (“I take those same chinese take-out boxes and fill them with some of our better quality chocolate and then package it up for people to bring as a nice little gift.”)

(Track 3)

LIEPPER: Mack says the most popular sweet are the Buckeyes. This type of candy truly rings in the holiday spirit.

MACK: (“It’s just something a lot of people have traditionally made around Christmas time along with their Christmas cookies and other treats.”)

(Track 4)

LIEPPER: Mack thinks it’s important to shop small business this holiday season. But she doesn’t just support that because she has to provide for herself and her family. She has another reason.

MACK: (“There’s a coffee shop next door and we’ve got a great deli and lots of fantastic restaurants in town. Being here and supporting those small businesses makes your community stronger.”)
