SYRACUSE, N.Y. (N.C.C NEWS)- On Saturday, November 19th starting at 9 A.M., River Church will give away over 250 turkeys for families in Syracuse.
River church has given over 35,000 turkeys in the last 18 years, ranging from 500 to 1000 turkeys per year.
But this year the church had to cut down on the number of turkeys they give away from 500 to 250 due to the supply chain inflation pushing the cost of thanksgiving turkeys to its highest levels.
“We love to bless our community, and it’s a simple way to let people know we care, we see you, hear you, “said Danielle Lucera, the secretary of the river church. “We know there’s a need, so here is a turkey to feed your family.”
Due to cutting their turkey giveaway in half this year, they are adding a twist to the turkey giveaway. They partnered with an organization called New Hope Family Services, a pregnancy resource center and a New York State-authorized adoption agency, to assist women at the turkey giveaway this year.
“We did a little collaboration with New Hope Family Services. They have a mobile unit where they go around the entire city. They offer free services to women in need of sonograms and pregnancy tests,” said Lucera.
River church has also partnered up with other local organizations that will provide necessities such as hats, gloves, and more.
“I feel like they can feel the love coming from us,” said Lucera. “It’s just a fulfilling moment, knowing that we’re doing something that God wants us to do.”
Doors open at 9 A.M. on Saturday, November 19, 2022. They are on a first come, first served basis until they run out.
