SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC NEWS) — In the heart of downtown Syracuse, the Salt City Market is committed to helping local food businesses not only thrive but also build generational wealth; the market has been a catalyst of success for many vendors. As the market bids farewell to three beloved vendors – Miss Prissy’s, Big in Burma, and Farm Girl Juicery – the community eagerly welcomes three newcomers.
Salt City Market’s Communications and Marketing Manager, CJ Butler, sheds light on the challenges of running a restaurant, emphasizing the market’s commitment to more than just profitability.
“The restaurant industry is a difficult place to be profitable and to be successful,” Butler says. “Knowing that we have vendors who are not only successful in their business but are also able to take that success into their personal lives is really fulfilling for us.”
The Salt City Market serves as a launching pad for vendors, enabling them to garner a dedicated customer base before venturing out on their own.
“The exposure is amazing. It’s a very busy intersection right in the middle of downtown,” Salt City Market Regular Danielle Johnson says. “Being able to start and get your name out there… it propels them to be able to go do their own thing somewhere else.”
With the departure of three fan favorites, Salt City Market welcomes ElleRae’s, a Cali-Mex taco joint, Sinbun, redefining the traditional cinnamon bun and She Fancy, a build-your-own charcuterie shop. Customers express a bittersweet farewell to vendors who have become culinary staples but are excited to see what options await them in the future.
Johnson mentions that the new additions add to the variety of the market and keep the space “fresh.”
To celebrate the transition and introduce one of the new vendors, Sinbun, the innovative cinnamon bun shop, is hosting a pop-up store at the Salt City Market. Scheduled for Nov. 15 at 11 a.m., this event is an open invitation to the community to get a sneak peek at what the vendor has to offer.
