Snow Slows, Annoys Syracuse Residents Snow Slows, Annoys Syracuse Residents

Reporter: It’s winter time and Syracuse and that means snow, lots and lots of snow.

Olivia: It’s so much harder, the first thing I do is look out the window and when I see that everything is white, I’m like, uh, oh my god, cause then I know I have to put on a huge coat and boots. It makes it so much harder.

Reporter: Not only is the snow annoying, but it can come with consequences. Syracuse residents try and stay prepared.

Fielding: Knowing whether or not there’s going to be ice on the road, that’s probably the biggest fear. Are the roads in a good enough condition that I’ll be able to make it up the hill in the morning.

Reporter: There’s no denying that this weather is absolutely brutal. People here in Syracuse are used to it. It’s one of the coldest and snowiest Novembers on record.

Fielding: You can’t really help the weather, hopefully things even out here.

Reporter: At some point in the winter time, the snow becomes more than just a travel concern.

Olivia: I think when it’s cold, it’s sometime painful. That’s the worst part when it’s so cold it literally hurts.

Reporter: It’s just the beginning of the snow season. Winter weather will continue through March.

This month has been one of the coldest and wettest months in Syracuse on record. With that cold weather comes plenty of frustration from Syracuse residents.

It’s so much harder, the first thing I do is look out the window and when I see that everything is white, I’m like, uh, oh my god, cause then I know I have to put on a huge coat and boots. It makes it so much harder,” said Olivia Colabro.

Snow can turn a ten-minute routine into one that takes nearly twenty mentions. Not to mention, icy conditions can put citizens’ safety in jeopardy.

Knowing whether or not there’s going to be ice on the road, that’s probably the biggest fear. Are the roads in a good enough condition that I’ll be able to make it up the hill in the morning,” said Fielding Clark.

But after all, this is Syracuse and snowy conditions are to be expected. Even though the conditions are a little worse than they usually are at this time of year, it’s not like people didn’t see this coming.

Residents I talked to admitted that this is just how it is and they’ll get over it after a while. At some point though, the weather can become more than just a travel concern.

I think when it’s cold, it’s sometime painful. That’s the worst part when it’s so cold it literally hurts,” said Colabro.

If we haven’t reached that point yet, we probably will soon. Snowfall in Syracuse typically continues through the month of March and occasionally into April.
