RACHA EXPLAINS THAT YOU SHOULD TRY AND ALWAYS WALK IN GROUPS OF THREE, ESPECIALLY AFTER DARK. IN ADDITION TO THAT, STUDENTS SHOULD SIGN UP FOR ORANGE ALERTS TO GET INSTANT NOTIFICATIONS ABOUT EMERGENCIES ON CAMPUS. STUDENTS CAN SIGN UP FOR IT IN THEIR MY SLICE ACCOUNT. SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – Students are ready to pour onto the Syracuse University campus as fall classes are ready to get underway in just under a month. With so many people ready to return, it is important to know some safety measures that can be taken to ensure everyone stays safe on campus and in the city.

Kiana Racha, the Internal Communications and Marketing Manager for Campus Safety and Emergency Services for the school, gave some tips for students to stay safe. In general, students should try and walk in groups of three or more, especially after dark.

There is a plethora of different apps that students can download that can quickly get them in contact with the Syracuse Department of Public Safety or the Police, as well as ensuring their safety. The apps that Racha mentioned are Easy Emergency Communications, Mobile Blue Light, Safe Walk, Tip Reporting, and Social Escape. Each app offering their own unique way to keep students safe.

Racha additionally explains that “paying attention to your surroundings and maintaining your personal space” is important as well as being alert when leaving stores or a shopping mall.

Students can always call the Syracuse Department of Public Safety at 315-443-2224, and will get an answer day or night, every single day of the year.
