Store Owners Voice Concerns about Juul’s Announcement Some Store Owners voice concerns about Juul's announcement

By Josh Liepper SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – Some store owners in Syracuse are concerned in the wake of Juul’s announcement that the company will stop selling some flavored podsĀ  in convenience stores and gas stations.

The company has faced pressure and backlash over the rapid increase of teenage vaping.

“In the end, they’re still going to have Juuls. I think customers will go to the flavors that are available,” Grabby’s owner Al Magrabi said.

Maurice Krohl is unhappy with the decision. He noticed the pressure that the company faced.

“Someone had to put pressure on them,” Krohl said. “Why are they just picking on Juuls and not the other pods?” he questioned.

Although Al Magrabi is neutral on the issue, he still doesn’t want the Juuls to go.

“I hope we never get rid of the Juuls. They sell. When the customers ask for Juul, they really like them,” Magrabi says.

People are fighting back against the Food & Drug Administration and manufacturers of vaping products that intrigue young people, targeting the Juul specifically.

The company’s goal was to help smokers quit. They will continue to sell mint, menthol and tobacco pods in stores.

Krohl: “It’s all about lobbyists getting down to somebody. Big tobacco companies I believe are hurting because they’re losing sales.”

Liepper: Al Magrabi, owner of Grabby’s, is neutral about the issue and says he doesn’t care what happens with the product.

Magrabi: “If I can’t sell Juuls, that means nobody can sell Juuls, so I’m not hurt or upset.”

Liepper: The company will continue to sell mint, menthol, and tobacco pods for its devices in retail stores. Later this week, the FDA is expected to ban selling flavored e-cigarettes in conveinence stores and gas stations.
