SU Players Are the Reason Dino Babers Speaks About Racial Injustice Babers Speaks About Racial Injustice

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC NEWS) — Syracuse University’s head football coach Dino Babers talked to media outlets today about what pushed him to speak about racial injustice and his support of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Babers released a statement on Twitter yesterday addressing the George Floyd protests and the challenges he faces as a black man. This comes after he received backlash for not addressing the topic sooner.

Babers said that he was hesitant to release the statement as it was typed for days and decided to release it after having a Zoom call with his players.

“I started to hear all the young men talk to me and express things to me. Men, young men that I love, they are my stepsons to me. How important it was for them that I get out there and say something, it brought me to tears,” said Babers.

Babers said this pushed him to release the statement.

“It’s hard to let family down,” said Babers.

He also mentioned that although he and the team discussed that topic, there will be more conversations to have.

“It was a baby Zoom call on some of the topics that are out there across the country. We haven’t had an opportunity as a team to finish what we started on that call,” said Babers.
