As an incoming college freshman, there is a lot you tend to worry about. Stress hits you hard, and there are a lot of questions freshman tend to have. After speaking to some current Syracuse students, they had plenty of advice to give.

(SU Student #1)

Don’t be afraid to reach out to people. I know it’s super nerve-wracking, but everybody is in the same boat as you. Find your community, thrive in it and enjoy it. Do what you have to do.

As far as advice specific to Syracuse itself, one current SU student says branching out is something to look forward to.

Explore more than just the campus area. Syracuse seems like a small city but it has a decent amount to offer if you go off of campus.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC NEWS)-As the summer semester comes to an end at Syracuse University, the fall semester is just about to begin. Fresh high school graduates are starting to say their goodbyes, and prepare for the next step of their journey; college.

There is a lot you have on your plate as an incoming college freshman. You have to figure out things like financial aid, your living situation, class schedule, making new friends and really just starting a whole new life other than the one you have been accustomed to for the previous 18 years. It is a lot to handle. Luckily, upperclassmen are filled with all kinds of knowledge because they have “been there, done that.”

When asked on advice they would give to incoming freshman, one current SU student had this to say.

“Don’t be afraid to reach out to people,” this current student said. “I know it’s super nerve wracking, but everyone is in the same boat as you. Find your community, thrive in it and enjoy it. Do what you have to do.”

He also stressed the importance of GPA, because students tend to not realize how crucial it can actually be.

“GPA does matter. Always make that a priority, especially right away,” this student stated. “You always want to be one step ahead with your GPA so you don’t dig yourself a hole that you can’t get out of.”

One other SU student offered some advice specific to Syracuse itself.

“Explore more than just the University,” this student explained. “Syracuse seems like a smaller city but it has a decent amount to offer if you go off of campus.”

Freshman arrive in about two weeks. Welcome weekend is August 22-25, and the fall semester begins on Monday, August 26th.
