SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has directed state police to step up security around synagogues and Jewish centers as Yom Kippur begins tomorrow.
“Recent anti-Semitic incidents, including an attack against a Synagogue in Williamsburg over the Rosh Hashanah holiday, underscore the need to protect against anti-Semitism and hatred of all kinds,” Cuomo said in a press release.
Yom Kippur is considered Judaism’s holiest day of the year and Cuomo believes it should not be disturbed.
“On behalf of all New Yorkers, I wish everyone a safe and meaningful holiday. Gmar Chatima Tova,” Cuomo said.
