SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) —A new type of dining is headed to Central New York. Harvey’s Garden will be a food truck and beer hall located at 1200 E. Water St. in an old warehouse.
Syracuse Common Councilor Michael Greene is the new owner of Harvey’s Garden. His idea came after he visited Rayback Collective in Boulder, Colorado.
“I took that idea and put a Syracuse spin on it and came up with Harvey’s Garden,” Greene said.
“In my travels throughout the community, we don’t always have a place where people of all different walks of life can come together,” Greene said. “I thought that was a hole that was missing in our community so I created it.”
The diversity of food options and price points are what he says will make it more inclusive.
At any given point, three food trucks will be there. They will post on their website the food truck that is there. One will be there at lunch, and three trucks at dinner.
It will also have self-serving beer stations where customers will use gift cards. This will be the first of its kind in Syracuse.
How it works is that the customer will show their I.D. to the bartender, who will give them a gift card they can scan at the beer wall for two drinks of their choice and size. Then when they want more, they will head back to the bartender and repeat the process.
Greene says he wants the atmosphere to feel comfortable. “You can come and really meet people unexpectedly here,” Greene said.
He expects some live music will be there somewhat regularly depending on the season.
The space will feature food trucks from the Syracuse Food Truck Association, including popular trucks like The Birdsong Cafe, Limp Lizard, Toss & Fire Wood Fired Pizza, among others.
Greene says the space is set to be ready by the fall.
