S-U student, Daniel Cunningham, is happy with what Joe Girard has given this school on the court.

Daniel Cunningham:
I think he did really well here in his four years, I don’t particularly think he’s going to do anything with the N-B-A, but he is good enough to play pro basketball somewhere else.

Maia Lopez and Cunningham share similar views on Freshman Judah Mintz declaring for the N-B-A draft.

Maia Lopez:
I think it would probably be in his best interest to stay another year, because some of his actions on the court have sort of shown he is kind of immature, like punching a player on the other team this past season.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC NEWS) — The Syracuse Men’s basketball program has been flipped upside down these past few weeks. Legendary coach Jim Boeheim has stepped down, but more recent news broke that both starting guards for the Orange are leaving the squad come next year. One of SU’s students, Daniel Cunningham, is happy with what Joe Girard has given this school on the court.

“I think he did really well here in his four years, I don’t particularly think he’s going to do anything with the N-B-A, but he is good enough to play pro basketball somewhere else.”

Many other students have the same opinion on Girard, but he’s not the only one leaving the Orange next season. Starting point guard, Judah Mintz, recently announced he will be declaring for the NBA draft, Maia Lopez and Cunningham share similar views on the Freshman’s decision.

Lopez said, “I think it would probably be in his best interest to stay another year, because some of his actions on the court have sort of shown he is kind of immature, like punching a player on the other team this past season.”

While Mintz prepares to exit the 315, new head coach Adrian Autry welcomes back Baldwinsville native JJ Starling, as a guard transfer from Notre Dome. In addition to the transfer, Justin Taylor will be able to step up and play a bigger role as a three-point shooter with Girard leaving next season. The orange have a lot of young talent to rely on next season along with a strong recruitment class.
