SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – Syracuse Mets fans got their first look at a renovated NBT Bank Stadium on Thursday at their first ever virtual open house.

All those in attendance were introduced to the stadium’s new features for the upcoming season. This is the Mets’ eighth open house in as many years, but due to the pandemic it was held virtually.

Some of the features include new paint and new lights, but COVID-19 protocols were also covered. Mets director of broadcasting and media relations Michael Tricarico said this open house covered more than in years past.

“Our open house is always an opportunity for us to interact with our fans, engage with our fans, to give them the information that they need for the upcoming season,” Tricarico said. “This year more than any other year, there is so much new information, new protocols that have to be followed and just a lot of new things happening with our team that don’t even have to do with the coronavirus.”

The Mets filled fans in on some of the guidelines that those who attend games will have to follow. Fans will either have to show proof of vaccination or proof of a negative test before entering games, Tricarico said.

“For everybody coming to the stadium, they have to show either proof of a vaccination, which means two weeks after the last dose … or proof of a negative test,” Tricarico said. “If it’s a PCR test, which is the more accurate one, then that is good for 72 hours. If it’s an antigen test, then they have to get that within six hours of attending the game. … Any children three or older, according to New York state guidelines, have to test negative.”

The Mets showcased their $25 million renovation project but also told fans about the socially distanced seating for this season’s games. Tricarico said that the Mets are using a “pod” system for seating.

“We have pods of two to six seats,” Tricarico said. “All of our pods are separated by either netting or zip ties six feet apart, … per New York state guidelines.”

Attendance for games will be capped at 20% of NBT Bank Stadium’s full capacity of 10,815 fans. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Tuesday.
