New York Mets’ fans only have to wait one more day until the team opens up its 2019 season. But in just over a week a different Mets team will begin a new era of baseball here in Syracuse. That’s right 2019 is the inaugural season for the Syracuse Mets. They are the Triple-A affiliate of the New York Mets. The team is emphasizing the fact that it’s their inaugural season by having a t-shirt giveaway early in the year. Michael Tricarico is the assistant director of broadcasting and media relations for the Syracuse Mets. He was with the Syracuse Chiefs and says this offseason has been a lot busier.
“Some of the people in the front office asked me to come in and help out just because we have gotten so many more merchandise orders than we have in past years. Right around Christmas time was about the busiest I’ve ever seen online orders for our team store.”
Now even though Tricarico says this has been a busier offseason, he says there is a lot of hype with the Mets beginning their time in Syracuse.
In addition to an increase in merchandise orders, Tricarico says Mets’ fans are excited to watch future players play in the same state as the big league club. He says this excitement is especially evident in Syracuse.
“They have been waiting for this for so many years. Waiting for New York’s top minor league affiliate to be here in Syracuse as opposed to in Las Vegas where it has been in the past couple years.”
Opening day is a week from tomorrow. Tricarico believes they can sellout the stadium if the forecast cooperates. Santino Primerano, N-C-C News.
We are a little over a week away from the Syracuse Mets’ first game of the 2019 season. This is the team’s inaugural season.
Some fans will receive a hat on opening day. The team will also be doing an inaugural season t-shirt giveaway, Michael Tricarico, the assistant director of broadcasting and media relations for the Syracuse Mets, said.
Tricarico said this past off season was a lot busier than previous ones. Part of this is due to an increase in merchandise orders.
“Some of the people in the front office asked me to come in and help out just because we have gotten so many more merchandise orders than we have in past years,” Tricarico said. “Right around Christmas time was about the busiest I’ve ever seen online orders for our team store.”
There is also a lot of excitement from Mets’ fans, Tricarico said. He said he also talked to some Mets’ fans who said they have been waiting for a minor league team to be in Syracuse.
“The excitement is certainly through the roof here in Syracuse,” Tricarico said.
Since the Syracuse Mets will be in the same state as their major league affiliate, Tricarico said it allows fans to be able to drive around four hours to see some of the future players.
“One of the great things that has happened with this partnership between the Syracuse team and the Mets has been the New York Mets’ commitment to Onondaga County, to Central New York, and just to the overall state,” Tricarico said.
The Syracuse Mets begin their season next Thursday.
