SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – Triple-A baseball is returning to the Syracuse area for the first time since September of 2019. The Mets have released their season schedule for the 2021 season. The team will play 142 games in 167 days, slightly more games than other years. To remain safe from COVID-19, the team will only play opponents within their division. This means the Mets will play Buffalo, Rochester, Worchester, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and Lehigh Valley.
Even though there is no set date for when fans may be allowed to go to NBT Bank Stadium, the team is hopeful that the date will be sometime in April. When fans do come back, the stadium will seat about 10% of its full capacity in accordance with state guidelines. The stadium seats 11,071 people, so about 1,000 people would be able to go to games under health guidelines. With the Carrier Dome and New Era Field (Buffalo Bills) reopening, there is a possibility the stadium may have fans for the home opener.
The Mets begin their season with a road trip to Lehigh Valley. The first game of their series will be played on April 6th.
