Syracuse Native Opens Store in Destiny USA Mall New Store comes to Destiny USA

NEKETA WOODSON: Newsome, who began his clothing line in 2014 said he wants to teach kids through his own success and experiences. Newsome hopes to keep kids in the community away from street violence.

JAMEL NEWSOME: ” The store is meant to make a mark for our community, I tell the kids if you got in trouble, I’m here to help you. Im a living proof, You can still turn your life around.”

WOODSON: Kids who find themselves in any trouble are welcome to come to the store to ask Newsome for help.
Mastermind will host a backpack giveaway on Aug. 26, 2021 to help the students in the community.

NEWSOME: “Basically just a gift back to the community. Everything you need for school. We’re going to give Mastermind shirts away.”

SYRACUSE N.Y. (NCC News) -Jamel Newsome, owner of the Mastermind Clothing Store in the Destiny USA Mall managed to grow his business over the course of seven years. Beginning as a nightlife DJ, Newsome decided to create his bring in 2006 which started at “3-1-5 Mastermind” including the Syracuse area code.

“I went to Walmart and bought 50 different color sweatsuits.” Newsome said. “People started buying them. They sold out in two days.”

As the brand grew, Newsome decided to make new logos and find a better quality of sweatsuits. Soon after, Newsome was able to buy a store on 615 N. Salina St. The Salina Street location has been opened for 3 years currently. Newsome’s job as a DJ helped him to get into contact with several celebrities such as JessHilarious, Instagram famous comedian, also featured on MTV’s “Wild ‘N Out” hosted by Nick Cannon; Rappers Lil Durk and the late King Von also endorsed the Mastermind brand, quickly expanding the brand’s market.On Aug. 5, 2021, Newsome opened a Mastermind location in the Destiny USA Mall.

Newsome said he hopes to teach kids in the community through his own success and experiences that it is never too late. Destiny USA’s Mastermind location is a streetwear store which also sells the Mastermind brand which Newsome hopes will reach a larger group of consumers.
