Syracuse N.Y. (NCC News)- The Syracuse Police Department is working with Solon Quinn Studios a digital marketing agency to help with their image. They want to get more police officers in the force.
In order to get more officers they want to have a better image of the police force to citizens.
The Syracuse Police Department has had very low enrollment rates this past year. This past July they had only four police officers sworn in. This time last year they had 41 officers sworn in.
The police department this past April had been in a national storyline where an eight-year-old who stole a bag of chips had been forcefully picked up and put into a police car by officers.
This incident had some backlash in the news. Legal Analyst Terri Austin went on ABC News and did not agree with how the police handled the incident.
“Under the Syracuse Police Department policy, they should have de-escalated the situation,” says Austin “There was no need to forcibly put him in the car”
Solon Quinn Studios Founder Solon Quinn wants to showcase the good officers in his project.
“People who move in the space of love, who really have compassion and patience and want to help people, I think there’s a lot of them” says Quinn.
Quinn also believes that police officers should not be viewed as a different part of the community than the residents of Syracuse.
” I think that every individual has a very very a great many things that connect them to other individuals” Quinn Says
Quinn also believes that in order to bridge a gap between the police force and how citizens view the police it will take everyone to come to a middle ground of love and respect.
