Syracuse Student Assists with ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ Tour Syracuse Student Helps Direct 'Jesus Christ Superstar'

HUMISTON: Amanda Gabriel is a music industry major at Syracuse University working with the assistant director of Jesus Christ Superstar. Although she’s helped out on sets of shows since high school, this production is the most elaborate show for her yet.

GABRIEL: “It’s the 50th anniversary tour so no expense was spared this set is amazing, the cast is.. I don’t even have words. It blows your mind.”

HUMISTON 2: Many students have worked on shows with producers at The Landmark Theatre, but Gabriel’s bosses and the producers she has been taking notes for… are her parents.

GABRIEL 2: “I’ve been lucky in that they really want to include us in it and as I’ve gotten older I’ve been like wow okay, I really want to do this for myself.”

HUMISTON 3: Gabriel will be taking notes for the director tonight through October 4th at the shows, to make sure each one is super. Moriah Humiston, N-C-C News.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC NEWS) — Tonight is the opening night of the ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ 50th anniversary tour. Syracuse student Amanda Gabriel is assisting with directing the show, and although she has worked in musical theatre since high school, this is the most elaborate show for her yet.

“It’s the 50th anniversary tour so no expense was spared, this set is amazing, the cast is… I don’t even have words,” Gabriel said. “It blows your mind.”

Although other students at Syracuse University have assisted with productions at the Landmark Theatre, Gabriel’s experience is different. The bosses and producers of the show she has been taking notes for, are her parents.

“I’ve been lucky in that they really want to include us in it and as I’ve gotten older I’ve been like ‘wow okay, I really want to do this for myself,’” Gabriel said.

Gabriel will be taking notes for the directors tonight through Oct. 4 at the shows. The shows will start at 7:30 p.m. at the Landmark Theatre on South Salina Street in Syracuse.

Lyrics from ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ song “Heaven on Their Minds”

Please remember that I want us to live,
But it’s sad to see,
Our chances weakening with every hour.
All your followers are blind,
Too much heaven on their minds,
It was beautiful, but now it’s sour.
Yes, it’s all gone sour.
