SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – Many people say, today’s youth don’t care about the future. On the election day, Syracuse students can prove the opposite. With their voice they can take part at the upcoming local election, whether for the city of Syracuse or – with an absentee ballot – for their hometown.
But are the students at Syracuse University really interested in local elections? Are they interested in voting for the county executive, the city auditor or the district attorney? NCC’s Julia Mahl went to campus to get more information – and got a clear respond: YES!
To hear about the students’ motivation to vote at local elections, listen to the following radio story!
NO MATTER IF FIRST-TIME OR VETERAN VOTER: MANY S-U STUDENTS ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO RAISING THEIR VOICE IN THE UPCOMING LOCAL ELECTION.
MATTHEW KEENAN IS A STUDENT AT SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY AND THIS WILL BE THE FIRST ELECTION HE CAN BE PART OF.
FOR HIM IT SHOWS THAT A BIG CHANGE CAN ONLY RESULT FROM SMALL ACTIONS.

(“It’s important because your voice matters more than for the entire country where you can feel like your vote can get lost and doesn”t matter as much. Since there are less people you can feel like having more of an impact.”)
FRESHMAN ELIZABETH TASZAREK SHARES THIS ATTITUDE AND BELIEVES THAT CHANGE IS NEEDED IN THE GOVERNMENT.

(“I currently not liking the political leaders at this moment and I think that we have to be involved in the local level as well. Because we can look at the president and say we don’t like the president. But I mean you have to start at the grassroots to fix the problem on the top.”)
ALL IN ALL, THE SYRACUSE STUDENTS ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO VOTING FOR A BETTER FUTURE.
