SYRACUSE, N.Y (NCC News) – Syracuse University continues to battle the ongoing COVID outbreak among its community. After announcing that the school would shift to fully remote learning earlier in the day yesterday, the school sent out two different emails to residents of Lawrinson and Watson residence halls.
In the email sent to all students living in Lawrinson Hall, Syracuse University said, “Given our most recent public health and testing data, in recent days we have noted new COVID-19 cases among Lawrinson Hall residents. As such, we are asking you to take urgent action to safeguard your healthy and the health of those around you.”
The emails ask that students in both residence halls report to the Dome to get tested and stay in their rooms as much as possible to avoid contact with others.
As of November 9th, the university was reporting 88 active cases and 480 students in quarantine.
If the school hits 100 or more cases within 2-weeks, it would have to shift to remote learning based on Governor Cuomo’s orders. Since the 2-week period reset on November 7th, SU only has 35 cases counted in this window.
Cases are on the rise in Onondaga County and currently sit at 868 active cases, an increase of 530 since October 27th.
