There is a lot going on in Syracuse this week. Downtown dining weeks started, it’s the Syracuse City School District’s midwinter recess and here on the campus of Syracuse University, it’s Duke Week. On Saturday the nation’s top ranked Blue Devils come to the Carrier Dome to take on the Orange for the teams’ second match-up of the season. While there may not be a lot going on around campus on a Wednesday morning, it will be a different scene Saturday evening. The Syracuse Athletics twitter said last month the game is sold out. Syracuse University student Ricky Sayer is a pretty big Syracuse Basketball fan who will be camping out for the game with some friends this week. He goes to most of the games but is expecting a lot from Saturday’s atmosphere.
“It will be the loudest the loud house will ever have been because it is basketball, slightly smaller. And I actually think it’s going to be even louder because of how the sound is going to reverberate.”
Even though Sayer clearly wants to Orange to win, he did say he is excited to see Duke’s Zion Williamson play live. At for at least one Syracuse fan, it’s more than just Syracuse versus Duke.
Syracuse University student Jacob Agatston calls himself a big Syracuse basketball fan. He will be attending Saturday’s game with his dad. The problem? Agatston’s dad attended Duke. This creates a rivalry in the Agatston household that lead to consequences.
“We made a bet on it and he ended up having to pose with Syracuse gear and post it on Facebook.”
Agatston is referring to the Orange’s buzzer beater win over Duke a couple of years ago. As for Saturday’s game, Agatston expects there to be a lot of trash talk between him and his dad. Santino Primerano, N-C-C News.
We are just three days away from Syracuse basketball’s second game of the season against Duke. This time, the game will be played in the Carrier Dome and students around Syracuse University are getting ready.
Ricky Sayer, a sophomore at Syracuse University, calls himself a pretty big Syracuse basketball fan. In preparation for the game, Sayer and four friends will be camping out near the Carrier Dome.
“For those three nights, those four days, one of us has to be in that tent at all times,” Sayer said. “Through the cold, through whatever weather it is, someone has to be there.”
The game is sold out, according to cuse.com. For this reason, Sayer says he thinks the Carrier Dome will be “the loudest the loud house will ever have been.”
Although Sayer said he is a big Syracuse fan, he added that he is excited to see the Blue Devil’s Zion Williamson play live.
Jacob Agatston, a Syracuse University student, will be going to the game with his father, a Duke graduate. Agatston said he and his dad trash talk each other when the two teams play. Agatston said there is more trash talk this year.
“Especially this year with Duke having Zion, just being basically an NBA team,” Agatston said. “He’s saying ‘Oh can’t wait until I come up to the Dome and we run you out by 30.’”
The games between Syracuse and Duke can lead to consequences for the Agatstons. When Syracuse defeated Duke two years ago, Agatston’s dad had to wear Syracuse gear and post pictures to Facebook.
