Syracuse University Tuition Will Increase in the 2019-2020 School Year Syracuse University tuition will increase in the 2019-2020 school year

FINNERAL: Open up your wallets ladies and gentlemen because Syracuse University has increased its tuition again. The tuition alone will be 52,210 dollars for the 2019-2020 school year. Syracuse sophomore engineering student Dan Brownell was not the happiest camper after initially hearing the news.

BROWNELL It’s kind of ridiculous. Not gonna lie. I mean I’m paying a lot of money to be here. Pay a little more and I mean unless they have a really good reason, I wouldn’t be too happy about that

FINNERAL (STANDUP): Although many students may not be happy with the increase in tuition, the university says money will be put toward many important things.

FINNERAL: The money from the tuition increase will go toward many of the current building projects at the University including the Barnes Center at The Arch, which is scheduled to open this Fall. According to officials the university will also increase its budget for financial aid next year. Brownell believes the financial aid systems at schools like Syracuse are extremely important.

BROWNELL: If you work hard enough to get into a school that you want to go to I think that it’s up to the school to accommodate your financial situation.

FINNERAL: So the student who was skeptical at first was easily persuaded by the reason for the tuition hike.

BROWNELL: I think that if they’re going to put part of my tuition money into dealing with the likes of those students and making sure those students have the ability to come here and get the degree that they want to get. I’m totally for it.

FINNERAL: Brownell says that Syracuse is making a calculated decision.

BROWNELL: Cause I mean at the end of the day it’s a business. Like the university has to make money it’s not like we’re a state institution, we’re a private institution.

FINNERAL: Ultimately Brownell believes there should always be a reason for a tuition increase or else applicants will be less inclined to attend Syracuse. James Finneral NCC News.
