SYRACUSE N.Y. (NCC News) — The annual Syracuse Winterfest festival begins Thursday night in Downtown Syracuse.

The 11 day festival kicks off with a free ice skating event in Clinton Square. The public can skate on the city’s downtown ice rink from 6 to 8 P.M Thursday. Ice skate rentals will also be free during the two-hour period.

The long list of Winterfest events also includes, fireworks shows, food and drink sampling events, and family activities. The events will be taking place in different parts of the city throughout the next week and a half.

The first Syracuse Winterfest took place in 1985. The organization expects 100,000 people to attend events throughout the Winterfest annually. Winterfest is a non-profit organization that is supported by local and state run businesses.

This year’s Winterfest will conclude on Sunday, February 25.

THE FIRST EVENT OF WINTERFEST, ICE SKATING WILL BE FREE AT THE CLINTON SQUARE ICE RINK FROM SIX-TO-EIGHT P-M WEATHER PERMITTING. ICE SKATE RENTALS ARE ALSO FREE.
