Alexandra Poll, Reporter: Marching through the rain today, from the Dunbar Center to City Hall steps, is the Citizen Review Board. Administrator Ranette Releford wants the community to know why they are here.

Ranette Releford, CRB Administrator: Today we’re marching for accountability. Let the community know that the CRB is still around, still continuing to fight for the people.

Alexandra Poll, Reporter: This week’s CRB events continue tomorrow with an open house at the new offices from 10:00 to 5:00.

Ranette Releford, CRB Administrator: You can see our new office space that we believe is conducive to the confidentiality that we want our complainants to know that we have. And a place where the officers should be comfortable coming in and giving their side of the interaction with the community.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — Syracuse’s Citizen Review Board kicks off its CRB week with a march downtown. The CRB is a confidential place for its citizens to bring their complaints. According to Administrator Ranette Releford, the goal of today’s march was to bring accountability and to make sure Syracuse’s citizens know that the board is there for them.

As a part of CRB week, the Citizen Review Board is hosting an open house tomorrow in their offices from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., and Releford encourages community members to stop by.

“You can see our new office space that we believe is conducive to the confidentiality that we want our complainants to know that we have. And a place where the officers should be comfortable coming in and giving their side of the interaction with the community.”

The CRB is here to make sure they keep the Syracuse Police Department accountable, but also be fair and hear all sides of the story.

“Listen to complainants, make policy and training recommendations as it relates to the police department, and hold hearings,” Releford says, “So we are just continuing to try to, you know, provide our community with a means of redress.”

Outreach events will be happening all week including social media outreach on Thursday, and meetings with various community groups on Friday. All of these events are in addition to their monthly public meeting that is taking place this Thursday April 4, at 5:30pm at Syracuse City Hall.
