SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The musical ‘Grease’ is ending its two month run in the Oncenter this weekend.
The Covey Theater Company, a registered nonprofit theater company, puts on multiple plays and musicals each year in Central New York. The Covey Theater Company Board President, Garrett Heater, wanted to mix it up for their summer musical.
“We find it’s important for the company to pick shows that have a broad appeal. Last year when we picked ‘Chicago’, that was a really good choice because a lot of people love that show. This year we didn’t want to stick with too dark of a theme, because ‘Chicago’ can get pretty dark, so we decided to go the completely opposite direction,” said Heater.
It had been twelve years since ‘Grease’ was performed in Syracuse. And now, the Covey Theater Company brings it back with their biggest cast ever, and “Sing-Along” shows where the audience can participate.
“We weren’t sure how it was going to go, and it was awesome. It was so reciprocal as far as the audience and the actors. It was a big hit, and people really enjoyed themselves,” said Heater.
The last four shows of ‘Grease’ are Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights in the Oncenter. The final show is Sunday at 2:00 P.M.
