Syracuse, N.Y. (NCC News)- The Town of Camillus has gone from farmland to shopping destination for many Central New Yorkers. According to the most recent U.S. Census, the Town of Camillus has seen a 4.4 % increase in population, while in the Village of Camillus population has decreased 2.9 %. Some who left are village businesses like Witty Wix and Colorful Inspirations, who left the village for more room to expand in Township 5. David Callahan, the Town of Camillus sixth ward councilman, says that Township 5 offers Camillus businesses a unique opportunity for growth.
“Not to take anything from the Village but when you need a room you got to go, and little places have done well down there, that gift shop started down there, got a good following and now she needed more space, didn’t have it in the village.” Callahan said.
Callahan says the Town of Camillus is very desirable for local business owners because there are enough people who moved to Camillus to support the shops and giving them an opportunity to do well.
“She’s (Colorful Inspirations owner) opened up in Township 5, and she’s got a great big sign, and she’s expanded her store, I mean that tells you all you need to know about the ability for people to flourish in a bigger spot,” Callahan said.
Another new business that chose to open up shop in Township 5 is the Warrior Factory, that offers a unique way to stay active in Central New York, Kathryn Bolster store owner says choosing Township 5 was an easy decision to make.
“Really excited about the Township 5 plaza, and the new things its bringing, that you can’t get anywhere else in the area, like the Movie Tavern or Costco, I thought that would bring a lot of people to the area specifically,” Bolster said.
