SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — “I thought what better way to bring awareness then to publicize it in my business,” Jonny-Lynne Firomenti said.

October is breast cancer awareness month and Firomenti, local business owner, from the Painting Cafe  donates 20%  of her profits to the Carol Baldwin Cancer Research Foundation of CNY. Her fundraiser is called Paint and Pour and it invites local residents to try out their artistic abilities while supporting an important cause.

Firomenti said she supports this cause because of her aunt’s breast cancer diagnosis.

“By giving a nod to my aunt saying hey I don’t know what you went through but I support the research that no one has to go through this again,” Firomenti said.

Firomenti has seen an increase in customers requesting paint and pour appointments during the month of October.

“So many people who have friends and family or even themselves who have been affected by breast cancer are happy to support this meaningful fundraiser,” Firomenti said.

Kim Fried is a first-time customer at the painting cafe.  She explained how it feels knowing that she is making a difference.

” I like the more local, because I know its used more locally and its not only going to the people running it, and not to the people that are actually survivors, going through what they are going through so I know its being well used, so it makes me feel good,” Fried said.

Firomenti hopes that her fundraiser brings awareness and donations in order to wipe out breast cancer for good.

“I’m very passionate about all cancer research and bringing it so we can fix it so nobody has breast cancer,” Firomenti said.
