FABIUS, NY (NCC News) – Central New York’s Toggenburg Ski Area has been put up for sale for $1.5 million. Toggenburg’s owner Peter Harris currently owns two other Central New York ski areas in Song and Labrador mountains. Harris purchased Toggenburg last summer and in an effort to consolidate his operations he permanently shut it down. This has created a lot of pushback from skiers this season with skiers starting a “reopen TOG!” Facebook page.
Harris has listed the 160-acre mountain and lodge for double what he paid last year.
Skier Jillian Han said it was not just the mountain or the trails that made Toggenburg special, it was the entire vibe.
“So, the Foggy Goggle was a bar and restaurant at the base of Toggenburg that we used to go to every Thursday. They had really good French fries and good drink deals and the bar here is not up to standards with what we like,” Han said.
With the closing of Toggenburg, Han has now been forced to make Song her home mountain. This vibe and passion that Toggenburg skiers had is one reason why skier Isabel Duchin couldn’t hide her excitement.
“I miss Toggenburg so much. It was so fun like we would always ski even though the mountain is tiny. We would always ski together and hit the Foggy Goggle,” said Duchin.
However, the former Toggenburg ski area has not yet been sold and there has been no indication whether or not it will reopen as a ski area.
