SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – Tesla owners in New York State can stop worrying about charging their cars because local electronic vehicle owners and out-of-town visitors have new new charging options in Syracuse.
There are 12 new Tesla chargers in the parking lot at Destiny USA in Syracuse. These charging stations make up the largest supercharging station in Onondaga County. This enables Tesla owners to charge their cars while shopping at Destiny.
The supercharger station can charge a Tesla up to 200 miles of electric capacity in 15 minutes.
According to Visit Syracuse, the newest Tesla charging station at the edge of the mall parking lot join over 400 public electric vehicle charging stations in Onondaga County.
The President of Visit Syracuse, Danny Liedka, said these new Tesla stations are positioned perfectly for anyone who needs a charge and is traveling on Interstate 81 in New York. Also, he said it is necessary to install more chargers in central New York with the increasing numbers in electric car ownership in Onondaga County.
“ I think it’s been a supply and demand issue,: said Liedka. “And as the years go on, we’re gonna see more and more inventory for people to buy electric cars locally.”
According to Liedka, Tesla’s choice to locate their chargers at the mall is twofold: The area’s proximity to the New York State Thruway and the mall’s various shops to shop in while the car is charging. This also benefits eco-tourism in the area.
“Now people have a reason to stop, and it’s going to interest them to come back and see what this region can do for them and take advantage of the sights they can see,” said Liedka.
New Tesla charger will help build the brand of the Syracuse area as a destination and drive tourism dollars in the future. According to the Director of Destiny USA Marketing, Alannah Gallagher, New York is expected to see $900 billion in tourism and Destiny U.S.A in will become even more popular.
“Because we’ve added such a great amenity and service for our already existing shoppers, they’ll be able to charge (their cars) now while they’re shopping and carousing (Destiny)” Gallagher said. “And, you know, we have shopping, but we also have dining and entertainment. So, there’s a lot of things that people can do here while they’re charging their Tesla.”
For many existing Destiny shoppers, the new chargers are a great service for them.
“They already want to come and now they can charge while they’re here due to our proximity to I -81 and the New York State Thruway.” Gallagher said.
Making it convenient for Tesla drivers like Donna Doyle, who drove her Tesla to Florida from her son’s house in upstate New York.
“It’s more convenient for us elder people now to find a Tesla charging station,” Doyle said. “(It saves me) at least one hour on this.”
The specific address of these Tesla chargers is located near the H & M entrance, across from the At-Home store where there are 12 supercharging stations. When you are traveling on the Thruway, or I-81 and need to charge your Tesla these new chargers at Destiny are a great convenience. Go to enjoy movies, do some shopping, or even have a cup of coffee and grab some foods. Do it all while charging your car’s battery.
