Pierce: “How about a job that pays $20 an hour? The US Census Bureau is looking for individuals in central New York to go door to door collecting information for the upcoming 2020 Census. The Bureau hosted a job fair on Tuesday from 9:00 that morning to 7:15 at night at Central Library in downtown Syracuse. The event aimed to answer any questions about the job and employee those who qualified. For Syracuse resident Jerry Muldrow, he found out about the job fair at his apartment complex.”
Muldrow: “The [US Census Bureau] held a little seminar dinner in my building. They told us that they need a lot of people for the Census”
Pierce: “The need for workers seems to be a national concern. According to NPR, the US Census Bureau must fill 500,000 positions nationwide. With an unemployment rate at the lowest in 50 years, finding workers may be difficult. If the Bureau is unable to reach its goal, it will rely on more Americans to complete the census form online at www.2020census.gov. While the pay is attractive, for Muldrow, it goes deeper. He anticipates enjoying the human interaction of going door to door to collect information needed”
Muldrow: “I like meeting people and talking to people.”
Even if you are not interested in the job or already employed, you can expect someone like Jerry to collect your information for the Census in about a month.
If you missed the job fair, you can still register online at www.2020census.gov
The US Census Bureau needs more people to collect information for this year’s Census, which starts in less than one month. Jerry Muldrow explains how the Bureau is trying to get people like him to join the team.
“The [US Census Bureau] held a little seminar dinner in my building. They told us that they need a lot of people for the Census”.
And at $20 dollars an hour and a flexible work schedule, its not a bad gig. For Muldrow, its more than the money.
“I like meeting people and talking to people.” he explains. It’s the human interaction that makes this job especially appealing to him.
