SYRACUSE, NY (NCC NEWS)– Americans might consider moving to another location in the United States after the COVID-19 pandemic. There were 30 states named on the list for the best cities to live in post-pandemic. The Business Insider, an American financial and business news website, looked at 380 U.S. metric areas to conclude the list.
The Business Insider originally reviewed nine metrics that could help the economy recover at a rapid rate after the pandemic. Those factors were: pre-coronavirus unemployment rate, ability to work from home, population density, housing affordability, monthly household costs, cost of living, weekly two-way work commute, total elementary- and secondary-school spending per student, and share of residents age 25 and over who have at least a bachelor’s degree.
After, evaluating these factors Syracuse ranked 21 on the countrywide list of best places to live post-pandemic. According to the Business Insider Syracuse had one of the highest share of jobs that could be done from home across the United States, at 38%. Also, one of the lowest costs of living in the Northeast 3.5%, lower than the national average.
Crouse Health Foundation President Carrie Berse give credit to Onondaga County leaders for making smart decisions during the early phases of the pandemic.
“I credit the leadership of our county and surrounding counties. The county executives and surround counties work together on a regional strategy for keeping us safe and healthy. So, I would take that as a major factor in all of this for us,” Berse said.
New York State has an agreement which is a part of the state system called SUNY Upstate to send nurses, staff and other help to SUNY facilities during times like these. Due to decisions like SUNY Upstate Berse believes Syracuse has dodge a little of a bullet.
